British Columbia 2009
The 2009 World Police & Fire Games proved that this event can only get bigger and better. From July 30th until August 9th 2009, over ten thousand competitors, from more than fifty countries, participated in what is now, the largest World Police & Fire Games ever. The Organizing team, along with their dedicated staff of volunteers, did an outstanding job in most every aspect. The welcome began with an introduction to registration at the new Convention Center in Vancouver, where knowledgeable volunteers were able to provide much needed information and guidance. It was obvious that a large amount of thought went into supplying each athlete with the tools necessary to enjoy a rewarding sporting and social event. The opening ceremony held on July 31st at General Motors Place was a spectacular affair, attended by many of the athletes and numerous dignitaries. The next ten days were a whirlwind of activity with athletic competition and social events filling every waking hour. The closing ceremony at Swangard Stadium on August 9th provided a beautiful backdrop for the passing of the flag ceremony. Some memories of the games have been captured in the attached pictures. Enjoy!
